“I found Odin standing on my desk this morning, surrounded by the torn remains of this journal. The sun was shining perfectly on him through the window, highlighting the whiter fur that grows from his old burns. I swear there was triumph in his eyes when he looked at me, as if he’d done something marvelously clever and couldn’t wait to be praised for it. How and why he escaped his enclosure, slipped into the house, and opened my desk drawer, I’m positive I’ll never understand, even with all of the lost speculation I did in these shredded pages. As wild as he is now – wild and well enough to be reintroduced – getting him back into that enclosure was shockingly easy. He practically led me there. Coyotes really are the American Reynard, aren’t they? Inscrutable, unpredictable, and fond of making fools of us.”

And Thy Neighbor As Thyself is the private journal of a missing wildlife rehabber, made public at the behest of his family. If you have any information as to his whereabouts, please send an email to zachary@knottyingrabbit.com
