Welcome to Knot Tying Rabbit! I am an Orthodox Christian author and artisan. I write fiction and make traditional Orthodox prayer ropes, both of which are represented on this website.

A short snippet about prayer ropes:

Prayer ropes, known in Greek as κομποσκίνι (komboskini) and in Russian as чётки (chotki), are used commonly by Orthodox monks and laymen alike. On them is prayed the Jesus Prayer, also called the prayer of the heart: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Use of a prayer rope is ubiquitous among world religions, but in the Christian monastic prayer rule its conception is attributed partly to Saint Pachomius in the fourth century, who made it to assist illiterate monks in their prayer rules. The method for tying the knot is generally attributed to Saint Anthony the Great, although because several variations of the knot exist, it is probably most accurate to attribute to him the general shape of the knot consisting of interlocked crosses. Styles of prayer ropes vary; some have tassels, some do not, some have spacer beads or larger knots every twenty-five knots, some have them every ten. The knot on the prayer rope, sometimes called the “angelic knot,” is a highly complex knot that consists of a series of interlocked crosses. Because of this complexity, each rope is time consuming to make and consequently more expensive than more common knotted rosaries or factory made versions, but I believe the beauty and durability that comes from making them by hand is worth the effort. By default, my ropes are made of waxed cotton cord, although nylon cord can sometimes be used for color if requested. The custom order form on the site covers the basic elements of the rope, but please include a message if you have a request that cannot be communicated in the form, such as the use of multiple bead types on a single rope or other elements.

**All prayer ropes are made to order. Production time is generally 1-3 weeks, but may vary depending on the current volume of orders. I am currently not taking custom orders, with the occasional exception, so visit my Etsy store to see what is currently for sale.**
